Statue of Minemheb, c. 1391-1353 (granodiorite)

500223 Statue of Minemheb, c.1391-1353 (granodiorite)
by Egyptian 18th Dynasty (c.1567-1320 BC); h:45.00 w:16.60 d:28.30 cm; Cleveland Museum of Art, OH, USA; (add.info.: Minemheb was one of the many court officials who helped prepare for Amenhotep IIIs 30-year jubilee festival. Clearly, Minemheb regarded this as the high point of his career, since his title as chief of construction for the jubilee temple is the primary one provided on this statue. It is actually a statue within a statue: Minemheb kneels to present a small altar, upon which squats a statue of the god Thoth in baboon form. Carved in extremely hard stone, Minemhebs statue is nonetheless carefully detailed and superbly modeled. Special attention was given to the rendering of the baboons face. The heavy-lidded eyes and furrowed brow give the animal an almost contemplative expression.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable "Statue of Minemheb" from the Egyptian 18th Dynasty. Crafted between 1391-1353 BC, this granodiorite masterpiece stands at a height of 45.00 cm and is housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio, USA. Minemheb played a significant role as one of the court officials involved in organizing Amenhotep III's grand 30-year jubilee festival. This statue symbolizes his crowning achievement during his career, as he is depicted kneeling and presenting a small altar upon which rests a statue of Thoth, the god represented in baboon form. Despite being carved from an incredibly hard stone, Minemheb's statue exhibits meticulous detailing and exceptional craftsmanship. Notably, great attention was given to capturing the expressive features on Thoth's face. The heavy-lidded eyes and furrowed brow lend an air of contemplation to this divine figure. The photograph beautifully captures every intricate detail of this ancient artifact that dates back to Egypt's New Kingdom era around the 14th century BC. It serves as a testament to both the artistic skill and religious devotion prevalent during that time.
