EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Archduke Albert of Austria (1559-1621) in all his regal splendor. Dressed in a gold-decorated breastplate, blue trunk hose, cream stockings, and a white ruff, the archduke exudes power and elegance. His plumed and gilded helmet adds an air of authority to his already impressive attire. The handcolored illustration by E. Lechevallier-Chevignard beautifully captures the intricate details of the archduke's outfit. Lithographed by A. Didier, L. Flameng, and F. Laguillermie from Georges Duplessis' renowned book "Costumes historiques des XVIe, XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles" (Historical costumes of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries), this image is a testament to the artistry involved in recreating historical fashion. Published in Paris in 1867 as part of Duplessis' series on costumes spanning several centuries, this particular volume focuses on the clothing worn during the Renaissance period.
