EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a collection of historical firearms belonging to Prince Charles Edward Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie. The image features several pistols, each with its own unique story and connection to the prince. One of the pistols depicted in this chromolitho is a gift from Prince Charles Edward Stuart to his Secretary, John Murray of Broughton. Another pistol was formerly owned by the prince himself and is now part of a private collection, graciously shared by Miss Rosalind B C C de M Howell. The pair of pocket pistols shown in the photograph are adorned with silver mountings and gold inlays. These exquisite firearms were once cherished possessions of Prince Charles Edward Stuart but have since found their way into HRH The Prince of Wales' personal collection. Additionally, one pistol displayed here belonged to Colonel Macpherson of Cluny and was granted permission for inclusion by him. Lastly, there is another pair given by Bonnie Prince Charlie to Cameron of Lochiel at Paris; D Cameron Esquire kindly allowed their representation. This remarkable illustration originates from "The Royal House of Stuart" drawn by William Gibb in 1890. It offers us an intimate glimpse into history through these meticulously preserved relics associated with one of Scotland's most iconic figures.
