Mr Butters headed the list of winning trainers in 1928, 1932, 1934, 1935, his record year being 1934, when the prize money gained by his stable totalled £88,843. He trained the Derby winners Bahram (1935) and Mahmoud (1936), and during the latter year he had 66 horses in training for 8 owners.
