This lantern was used by Captain (later Lieutenant-Colonel) William Tyrwhitt Drake, Royal Regiment of Horse Guards, during his active service in the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815). Drake fought at Waterloo in 1815 with Major-General Edward Somersets Household Cavalry Brigade and took part in the attack on the French infantry which were advancing towards the British centre at La Haye Saint.); © National Army Museum
