The button, beautifully preserved and blackened with time, features a regal crown above Queen Victoria's cypher, surrounded by the regimental title. The Northern Bengal Mounted Rifles originated in 1872 as the Northern Bengal Volunteer Rifle Corps, primarily composed of British tea planters who volunteered for service. In 1889, this auxiliary unit underwent reorganization and became known as the Northern Bengal Mounted Rifles, with its headquarters established in Darjeeling.
