XOS1765282 One of a pair of cabinets mounted with late 17th century pietra dura plaques, c.1810 (oak, pine, and beech veneered with ebony and mahogany) by Weisweiler, Adam (c.1744-c.1820) (attr. to); 101.6x150.2x54.6 cm; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, USA; (add.info.: The pietra dure (hardstone) plaques and micromosaic roundels on this pair of cabinets were probably made by Italian craftsmen in the late 17th century, A hundred years later they were mounted in cabinets of oak, pine, and beech veneered with ebony and mahogany with pewter stringing, gilt-bronze mounts, portor d'Italie marble tops. William Beckford, a wealthy English connoisseur of hardstones, may have ordered this cabinet to be made with identical gilt bronze mounts to match the earlier one he bought in the French Revolution (XOS1765282).); French, out of copyright
