Screen Portrays Dukes Life - The Cadet
One of the few pictures taken of Prince Philip as a cadet at Dartmouth. In the foreground are the late King George VI, the Queen Mother and to the left (out of picture) the present Queen. This visit of the King and Queen to Dartmouth in 1939 was probably the first meeting between Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. This picture is a scene from the film " Prince Philip", a screen biography of the Duke which will be shown in London today for the first time. Veteran producer Howard Thomas who made the Coronation film " Elizabeth is Queen", spent a year sorting through thousands of feet of film touching on the Dukes activities. The half-hour documentary opens with the Royal Wedding of 1947, goes back to the Dukes schooldays and ends with the Coronation.
