EDITORS COMMENTS
Great image capturing the poignant moment of unity and respect between Motherwell and Rangers football clubs during a Minute's Applause in memory of Tommy Burns at Fir Park, Scotland, during the 2007-2008 Clydesdale Bank Premier League season. Tommy Burns, a beloved figure in Scottish football, passed away on January 13, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. Burns had an impressive career as a player and manager, spending time at both Motherwell and Rangers. He made over 200 appearances for Motherwell between 1965 and 1971, scoring 53 goals. He later managed Motherwell from 1994 to 1996, leading them to the Scottish Cup Final in 1995. Burns also spent time at Rangers, making 12 appearances and scoring 2 goals for the club during the 1971-1972 season. He later returned to Ibrox as a coach under Walter Smith in the late 1990s. This powerful photograph encapsulates the spirit of football, as two fierce rivals come together to honor the memory of a man who touched the lives of so many within the game. The sea of scarves and banners held aloft by fans from both sides of the divide is a testament to the profound impact Burns had on Scottish football. The Minute's Applause was a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the beautiful game, and this image serves as a poignant reminder of the unity and respect that can be found within the football community, even in the face of fierce competition. Lynne Cameron's photograph beautifully captures this moment, providing a lasting tribute to Tommy Burns and the indelible mark he left on Scottish football.
