EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the thrilling world of Formula One racing in 1972. The focus is on Tim Schenken, an Australian driver who showcased his exceptional skills during the French Grand Prix at Clermont-Ferrand. Despite facing numerous challenges, Schenken managed to qualify a remarkable fifth position in his Surtees TS9B. However, fate had other plans for him on that eventful day. As the race commenced, fuel began leaking into the cockpit, creating a hazardous situation for Schenken. To exacerbate matters further, his shoulder straps were poorly fastened, leaving him vulnerable and compromising his safety. Despite these setbacks and with immense determination coursing through his veins, Schenken valiantly fought against all odds. Unfortunately, fuel pump problems plagued him throughout the race as he battled fiercely against formidable opponents on the track. Ultimately, luck was not on Schenken's side that day as he crossed the finish line in a disappointing seventeenth place. Nevertheless, this photograph immortalizes both his unwavering spirit and the challenges faced by drivers during one of motorsport's most prestigious events. With its timeless quality captured by Louis Rosier's lens from Motorsport Images archives; this image serves as a poignant reminder of how even skilled racers like Tim Schenken can be humbled by unforeseen circumstances within Formula One's high-octane realm.
