EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant image captures Sarah Stallybrass (nee Robinson), a devoted wife and missionary, who devoted her life to spreading the word of Christianity in Mongolia during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Born in England in 1789, Sarah married Edward Stallybrass, a fellow missionary, and together they embarked on a journey to Mongolia in the early 1800s. Sarah's life in Mongolia was filled with challenges and hardships. The harsh climate, language barriers, and cultural differences presented significant obstacles to their missionary work. Despite these challenges, Sarah remained steadfast in her faith and dedication to her husband and their cause. Tragically, Sarah passed away in Mongolia in 1833, leaving behind her husband and their children. Her death was a great loss to the missionary community and the people of Mongolia, who had come to know and respect her for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her beliefs. This photograph, taken from an original painting by the renowned artist Anthony Dyck, is a poignant reminder of Sarah Stallybrass's remarkable life and legacy. The image shows Sarah in her later years, with a serene expression on her face, as if reflecting on the many experiences and challenges she faced during her time in Mongolia. The painting captures the strength and resilience of a woman who dedicated her life to spreading the word of God, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Sarah Stallybrass's story is a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and the human spirit.
