EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the NAMC YS-11 JA8676 (msn 2035), also known as Sinchi Roca, before its delivery to Lineas Aeras Nacionales (LANSA) in Peru. The YS-11-120 model, manufactured by NAMC (Nippon Aerospace Engineering Corporation), is depicted here in pristine condition, displaying the distinctive red and white livery of LANSA. The aircraft, with its distinctive T-tail and twin engines, was an advanced design for its time, featuring a high degree of aerodynamic efficiency and excellent short takeoff and landing capabilities. Once delivered to LANSA in April 1967, the aircraft was registered as OB-R-857. However, its tenure with the Peruvian airline was short-lived, and it was eventually withdrawn from use. The YS-11-120 JA8676 now resides at Grissom Air Museum, making it the only YS-11 preserved outside of Japan. This photograph, taken circa 1968, captures a moment in aviation history, showcasing the sleek and innovative design of the NAMC YS-11, a testament to the ingenuity of Japanese aviation engineering.
