"This photograph showcases BAC 1-11 aircraft, registration number 485GD, of 551 Squadron, Royal Air Force of Oman, during the 1993 Royal International Air Tattoo held at RAF Fairford from July 21 to 27. The BAC 1-11, a versatile twin-engine jet airliner, was in service with the Royal Air Force of Oman from 1982 to 2003. In this image, the aircraft is adorned with the distinctive markings of 551 Squadron, which was formed in 1972 and was known for its role in transport and VIP duties. The BAC 1-11 was a familiar sight at the annual airshow, and I had the privilege of flying on all three of RAFO's 1-11s at least ten times each. The 1993 Air Tattoo was a memorable event, with an impressive lineup of military and civilian aircraft from around the world. This photograph captures the essence of that time, with the BAC 1-11 standing proudly against the backdrop of the iconic RAF Fairford runway."
