The British Army, led by General Horatio Herbert Kitchener, was engaged in a fierce battle against the Sudanese Mahdist forces, led by the Mahdi's successor, Abdallahi ibn Muhammad. The British 21st Lancers, also known as the 'Empress of India's Horse,' charged towards the Mahdist ranks with great courage and determination.
