A Stroll Down Memory Lane: Contrasting Promenades of the Past and Present - A Satirical Look at Fashion and Manners This photograph print from Mary Evans Picture Library transports us back in time, inviting us to compare the old and new ways of promenading along the Old Heath, circa 1830. The image offers a satirical commentary on the manners and fashions of two generations, with an emphasis on the overblown proportions of tiny waists, huge hats, and gigot sleeves. On the left side of the image, we find ourselves in the midst of the past, where ladies don elaborate costumes, complete with bonnets adorned with flowers and ribbons, and trains that trail behind them.
