This photograph captures the Douglas A-26B Invader, registration N167B and nicknamed "Sugarland Express," at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in July 2000. The Invader, with manufacturing serial number 27881 and former military serial number 44-34602, is a rare and iconic aircraft that once served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. The A-26 Invader was a versatile twin-engine attack bomber and reconnaissance aircraft, known for its distinctive appearance with its rounded nose and twin vertical stabilizers. This specific Invader underwent an impressive post-military career, including service with the Civil Air Patrol and the film industry, before being restored to its current pristine condition. The Sugarland Express moniker was given to this Invader due to its connection to the famous Texas racing duo, Glen and Darnell Glossup, who owned and operated the aircraft in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Glossups used the Invader for various aerobatic displays and even set a number of speed records during this time.
