This exquisite handcolored copperplate engraving, taken from Gottlieb Tobias Wilhelms Encyclopedia of Natural History: Fish, published in Augsburg in 1804, showcases an intriguing assembly of marine creatures. The engraving, produced under the direction of the Bavarian clergyman and naturalist Wilhelm (1758-1811), who was affectionately known as the German Buffon, offers a detailed and accurate representation of various fish species.
