The notorious heist, which took place on August 8th of that year, saw a gang of 15 men intercept a train carrying over £2.6 million in banknotes from Glasgow to London. The escape from Winson Green Prison in Birmingham, depicted in this photograph, was a crucial moment in the aftermath of the robbery. Wilson, who had been remanded in custody in connection with the crime, managed to evade prison guards by disguising himself as a prison officer. In the photograph, Wilson can be seen wearing a fake uniform, complete with a forged identity card and a replica of the prison's crest.
