EDITORS COMMENTS
Georges Guetary, born Lambros Worloou in 1898 in Alexandria, Egypt, to a Greek father and an Egyptian mother, was a renowned French singer, actor, and entertainer who made a significant impact on the cabaret and musical comedy scenes in the early 20th century. This photograph captures Guetary in his prime, exuding charm and charisma as he performs for an enraptured audience. Born into a multicultural background, Guetary's unique heritage influenced his artistry, blending elements of Eastern and Western traditions. He began his career in the music industry as a tenor, but soon discovered his true calling in cabaret and musical comedy. His distinctive voice, combined with his wit and stage presence, quickly made him a favorite among Parisian audiences. In the early 1910s, Guetary became a regular performer at the famous Folies Bergère, where he starred in various productions. He also appeared in several films during this period, further solidifying his status as a versatile entertainer. One of his most famous songs, "Mon Cœur S'ouvre à Toi," became a standard in the French repertoire and remains a beloved classic to this day. Despite the challenges of the First World War, Guetary continued to entertain the public, performing for troops and raising morale during difficult times. His dedication to his craft and his ability to connect with audiences earned him a place in French entertainment history. This photograph is a testament to Guetary's enduring talent and the lasting impact he had on the world of cabaret and musical comedy.
