EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print showcases the ruins of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Located at the entrance of the ancient Greek city's harbor on the island of Rhodes, the colossal statue of Apollo, the god of the sun, stood an impressive 100 feet high. Erected around 280 BC, the statue was a symbol of Rhodes' prosperity and power. The statue, depicted here in its white, weathered state, was a marvel of ancient engineering, with its bronze body supported by a pedestal and two pillars. The statue represented Apollo in his sun god form, with the god holding a bow and arrow. However, the Colossus of Rhodes did not stand the test of time. An earthquake struck the island in 224 BC, causing the statue to fall from its pedestals and into the harbor. Despite the devastation, the fallen statue continued to be a source of inspiration and wonder for centuries to come. The ruins of the Colossus of Rhodes are a testament to the rich history and cultural significance of ancient Greece. This print captures the essence of the past, transporting us back to a time when the world was filled with awe-inspiring feats of engineering and artistic expression. The white buildings and clear waters of the harbor provide a stunning backdrop to the remnants of this ancient wonder, reminding us of the enduring power of history and the human spirit.
