EDITORS COMMENTS
54 Mount Street, located in the prestigious Park Lane area of London, has a rich and storied history as the former residence of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, and his wife, Princess Alexandra of Fife. The Connaughts moved into this elegant townhouse following their wedding on 15 October 1913. Prior to the Connaughts, the property belonged to Lord Plymouth. The Duke and Duchess of Connaught were the fifth children and third sons of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Prince Arthur, born in 1850, served in the British Army and held various military appointments throughout his life. Princess Alexandra, born in 1873, was the eldest daughter of Prince and Princess of Wales, later King George V and Queen Mary. Their marriage was a significant event in British royal history, as the couple were first cousins. The wedding ceremony took place at Windsor Castle, and the newlyweds settled into their new London home at 54 Mount Street. The house was an ideal location, situated in one of the most fashionable areas of the city, and close to many of the royal family's other residences. The Connaughts lived at 54 Mount Street until 1923, when they moved to Bagshot Park in Surrey. During their time in London, the couple entertained frequently, hosting numerous receptions, dinners, and other social events. The house became a hub of royal activity and a symbol of the Connaughts' status as senior members of the British royal family. Today, 54 Mount Street stands as a testament to the rich history of the British monarchy. The elegant townhouse, with its beautiful façade and storied past, continues to captivate visitors and history enthusiasts alike. The print of this iconic residence offers a glimpse into the lives of the Connaughts and the royal world of early 20th century London.
