EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Liszt Collection showcases an exquisite artwork titled "Virgin Child Angels Dancing Landscape". Created in the 1530s, this etching is a second state sheet measuring 4 7/8 x 13 7/16 inches (124 x 341 cm). The piece was masterfully crafted by Daniel Hopfer, a renowned German artist born in Kaufbeuren in 1471 and passed away in Augsburg in 1536. Inspired by Italian artist Marcantonio Raimondi, who hailed from Argini and lived between 1480 and before his death in Bologna around 1534, Hopfer's work beautifully captures the essence of angelic figures dancing amidst a picturesque landscape. The delicate details and intricate lines showcased through etching techniques truly bring this scene to life. The influence of Lucas Cranach the Elder can also be seen within this masterpiece. Born in Kronach in 1472 and passing away in Weimar or Nuremberg around1528, Cranach's artistic style adds depth and richness to Hopfer's creation. As we gaze upon this stunning print, we are transported back to the Renaissance era when art flourished with divine inspiration. It serves as a testament to the skillful craftsmanship of these talented artists who left an indelible mark on art history. This print invites us to appreciate their genius while immersing ourselves into a world where virgin child angels dance gracefully amidst nature's splendor.
