Robert Drummond acquired the manor of Cadland in 1772. Later in the 1770s, he called in Lancelot Brown and his son-in-law, Henry Holland to design him a new house and park. This house was then called Boarn Hill Cottage, Cadland House then being the main house some five kilometres to the north.
