He was born in London, the son of a printseller, and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1809 to 1833, with works such as The Ruins of Tintern Abbey (1811). His work is characterized by its attention to detail and accuracy; he often used sketches made on his travels as source material for his paintings. Robson also produced many prints, including topographical views of Scotland and Ireland. His work is held in several public collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
