Tessellated pavement. Tasmania, Australia

This unusual geological formation gives the rocks the effect of having been rather neatly tiled by a giant. The pavement appears tessellated (tiled) because the rocks forming it were fractured by earth movements. The fractures are in three sets. One set runs almost north, another east north east, and the third discontinuous set north north west. It is the last two sets that produce the tiled appearance. This tessellated pavement is one of the largest in the world

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the mesmerizing beauty of the Tessellated Pavement in Tasmania, Australia. The unique geological formation gives the rocks the appearance of being neatly tiled by a giant, creating a truly remarkable sight to behold. The pavement's tessellated (tiled) appearance is a result of earth movements that fractured the rocks into three sets of fractures. The two sets running east north east and north north west are what produce the distinctive tiled effect that makes this pavement one of the largest in the world. In this vertical shot, taken by photographer John White Photos, we see the intricate patterns and textures of the tessellated rocks against a backdrop of cloudy skies and distant mountain ranges. The natural beauty of this coastline is truly awe-inspiring, with no need for human intervention or development to enhance its allure. As you gaze upon this image, you can't help but marvel at the wonders of nature and how something as simple as fractured rocks can create such an extraordinary landscape. This photograph serves as a reminder of just how diverse and breathtaking our planet can be when left untouched by human hands.
