Alexandre Dumas pere (1802-1870) was a French author and playwright best known for his historical adventure novels, such as The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. He was born in Villers-Cotterêts, France, to a family of mixed race. His father was an aristocrat from Haiti and his mother was the daughter of a French innkeeper. Dumas wrote over 100 plays and novels during his lifetime, many of which were adapted into films or television series.
