Matthaus Merian (1593-1650) was a Swiss engraver and publisher from Basel, Switzerland. He is best known for his topographical views of cities and landscapes, which were published in books such as Topographia Germaniae, Topographia Helvetiae and Topographia Galliae. He was also an accomplished painter, producing works such as the 1625 painting The Triumphal Entry of Emperor Ferdinand III into Vienna.
