Robert Dighton Collection

Robert Dighton (1752-1814) was a British printmaker, painter, and caricaturist. He is best known for his satirical prints and portraits of actors, politicians, and royalty. His works often depicted the foibles of contemporary society with wit and humor. He was born in London to a family of artists; his father was a scene painter at Drury Lane Theatre. Dighton's career began in 1771 when he produced illustrations for John Bell's Theatrical Magazine. By 1780 he had established himself as one of the most prolific printmakers in London, producing over 500 prints during his lifetime.
