The Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) is a small wading bird belonging to the Sandpipers family, Charadriiformes and has a distinctive black and white patterned head, with red legs and bill. The back of its body is reddish-brown in color, while its underparts are white. This species can be found on coasts around the world, including North America, Europe and Asia. It feeds mainly on insects and other invertebrates found in tidal pools or along shorelines. During migration they may also feed on berries or grains. They breed in colonies near coastal areas during summer months before migrating south for winter months, and are considered to be of least concern by conservationists due to their large population size and wide distribution range across the globe.
