Black Shouldered Kite Collection

The Black Shouldered Kite (Accipitridae Accipitriformes) is a small raptor bird of prey found in open habitats across Europe, Asia, and Africa and has a distinctive black shoulder patch and white head with a yellow bill. Its wingspan is typically around 50 cm, and it weighs an average of 150 grams. The Black Shouldered Kite feeds mainly on insects, small rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and other birds. It hunts by hovering above the ground or trees before swooping down to catch its prey with its talons. During the breeding season it builds nests in tall trees or on cliffs where it lays 1-4 eggs which hatch after about 30 days of incubation. The young fledge after another 30 days or so and are able to fly within two months of hatching. This species is considered to be common throughout much of its range but has suffered from habitat loss due to human activities such as deforestation and agricultural expansion in some areas.
