Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, LNER poster, 1930

Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Edinburgh, Scotland. The poster shows a view of the palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of the Queen. A carriage is shown entering the palace, surrounded by soldiers and a military band. Artwork by Fred Taylor, who was commissioned in 1930 to design four ceiling paintings for the Underwriting Room at Lloyd's and murals for Reed's Lacquer Room. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and other London galleries and worked for the Empire Marketing Board, LNER, London Transport and several shipping companies. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 1270 mm

Rhuddlan Castle, LMS poster, 1929

Poster produced for London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Rhuddlan Castle, Denbighshirre, Wales. The castle was built in the 11th century and changed hands between Wales and England several times, but with the establishment of English rule in Wales it finally passed into the keeping of the Crown. It was ravaged by Parliamentarians in 1643. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson, who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) and Southern Railway (SR) and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the LMR in 1924. Poster produced for London & North Easter Railway (LNER) and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Edinburgh. The poster shows the interior of the Chapel of the Thistle, St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh. The Thistle Chapel is home to the Order of the Thistle and and honours some of the greatest Scots of the last 300 years. Artwork by Fred Taylor, who was commissioned in 1930 to design four ceiling paintings for the Underwriting Room at Lloyd's and murals for Reed's Lacquer Room.
