A Bangladeshi lawyer who wants his country to officially recognise George Harrison and Ted Kennedy for highlighting its 1971 struggle for independence has taken his battle to the country's high court. Masood Sobhan says it is a "disgrace" the Beatles lead guitarist and US Senator were never formally thanked by Bangladesh for publicising its war of independence with Pakistan.

Film actor Kirk Douglas in one of his first movies, in an undated picture. Douglas born in Amsterdam, New York, made his Broadway debut in 1941, served in the US Navy and embarked on a screen career in 1946. His films include Champion (1949), The bad and the Beautiful (1952), Lust for Life (1956) for which he was nominated at the US Academy awards, and Spartacus (1960). From the 1970s Douglas also worked as director. Douglas won an honorary Oscar in 1996 for 50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community. (Photo by - / AFP)
