Rothschild Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) standing in the Golden Forest of Acacia Fever trees in Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya

A solitary African Rothshild Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) standing on the border of the Golden Forest of Acacia Fever Trees (Acacia xanthophloea) at Lake Nakuru National Park. Rothschilds giraffe was formerly considered a subspecies of a singular Giraffa species. Genetic analysis has now determined it to be a subspecies of the Northern giraffe. It is one of the most endangered distinct populations of giraffe, with 1500 individuals estimated in the wild.
