Portrait of Adam Sedgwick 1867. Sedgwick wrote a harsh review of a presentation of Darwins Origin of Species ideas in the Edinburgh review of 1860. He had written an even more scathing review of Chambers evolutionary " Vestiges of Creation" some ten years earlier. Darwin considered that few of the older generation of natural scientists, even those he had known like Sedgewick, would come around to his point of view on natural selection.
