EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic moment captured by Kirk O'Rourke, Rangers FC goalkeeper Neil Alexander triumphantly lifts the Co-operative Cup aloft at Hampden Stadium following a hard-fought victory over arch-rivals Celtic in 2011. The Co-operative Cup, a cherished trophy in Scottish football, had eluded Rangers for several years, making this triumph all the more sweet. The atmosphere at Hampden Park that day was electric, as two of Scotland's most storied clubs battled it out for the coveted prize. The tension was palpable, with both teams giving it their all on the pitch. But it was Rangers who ultimately emerged victorious, thanks in large part to the heroics of their goalkeeper, Neil Alexander. Alexander, a veteran of Scottish football, had joined Rangers in 2009 and quickly established himself as a fan favorite with his commanding presence between the posts. In the 2011 Co-operative Cup final, he made several crucial saves to keep Celtic at bay and preserve Rangers' lead. As the final whistle blew, the Rangers players and fans erupted in jubilation. Alexander, exhausted but elated, was the first to lift the trophy, savoring the sweet taste of victory. The scene captured in this photograph is one that will be remembered fondly by Rangers fans for generations to come. The Co-operative Cup, now known as the Scottish Challenge Cup, has a rich history in Scottish football, with Rangers having won it a record 27 times. But this victory in 2011, with Neil Alexander's heroics in goal, will always stand out as one of the most memorable.
