La Route Aux Courses by Edmund Blampied
An impression of a typical scene on the road to the racecourse at Dinard. The all-conquering motor has not yet entirely ousted the more elegante horse equipage, and one may still ride or drive to the race meeting in the fashion of a more leisurely generation. Blampied (1886-1966) drew countless illustrations for the ILN magazines. As well as scenes of typical London life for The Illustrated London News, he produced a number of colour pictures for The Bystander featuring the glamorous and privileged classes at fashionable resorts around the world

EDITORS COMMENTS
La Route Aux Courses by Edmund Blampied captures a historical moment on the road to the racecourse at Dinard in 1926. In this scene, we see a contrast between the all-conquering motor vehicles and the more elegant horse-drawn equipage of a bygone era. Blampied's impressionistic style brings to life a leisurely generation where one could still ride or drive to a race meeting in a fashion that exudes class and sophistication.
Blampied, known for his illustrations in The Illustrated London News magazines, has beautifully depicted the glamorous and privileged classes at fashionable resorts around the world. His attention to detail and historical accuracy make this print an important piece of art history.
As we admire this scene from August 18th, 1926, we are transported back in time to witness a moment frozen in history. The colors and composition evoke a sense of nostalgia for a time when life moved at a slower pace and elegance was paramount.
This print is not just an image but an experience, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the world of high society and luxury travel. It serves as a reminder of how far we have come while also celebrating the timeless beauty of classic transportation methods.
