This print captures the historic Dunston Pillar in Lincolnshire, England. Originally erected in 1751 as an inland lighthouse to guide ships navigating the treacherous waters of the River Witham, this impressive pillar later became adorned with a statue of King George III.
However, during World War II, the top portion of the pillar had to be removed due to concerns that it posed a hazard to aircraft flying overhead. This act speaks volumes about the adaptability and resilience of historical landmarks in times of conflict.
