EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph by renowned nature photographer Art Wolfe, a mesmerizing scene unfolds as a large group of Marine iguanas (Amblyrhynchus cristatus) bask in the sun along the rocky shores of Ecuador. With their nearly black bodies, these intriguing reptiles blend seamlessly into their environment, making them almost invisible against the dark volcanic rocks. Marine iguanas are the only sea-going lizards in the world, and they can be found primarily on the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Their diet consists mostly of marine algae, making them uniquely adapted to their aquatic surroundings. Reaching lengths of up to 60cm (2ft), these creatures are a sight to behold as they move gracefully among the waves. The Galapagos Islands are home to over 70,000 Marine iguanas, making them the most populous creature on the islands. In this image, a sense of togetherness and relaxation is conveyed as the Marine iguanas rest in the sun, their bodies stretched out in a horizontal position. The vibrant colors of their scales contrast beautifully against the blue-green hues of the Pacific Ocean, creating a stunning visual display. This photograph captures the essence of animals in the wild, showcasing the natural beauty and harmony of the marine ecosystem. The daytime scene, set against the backdrop of the South American country of Ecuador and Latin America, is a testament to the wonders of the natural world. With no signs of human presence, the viewer is transported to a serene and untouched environment, allowing them to fully appreciate the majesty of these fascinating creatures.
