This striking image captures the moment of intervention in a duel between Sir Francis Osbaldstone and Sir Rashleigh by the legendary Scottish hero, Rob Roy MacGregor, in 1818. The photograph, published by Mary Evans Picture Library from their extensive historical collection, transports us back in time to an era of honor, chivalry, and feuds settled with the point of a sword. Sir Rashleigh (left) and Sir Francis Osbaldstone (right), both clad in the formal attire of the day, including wigs and voluminous coats, stand facing each other, their swords drawn, ready to engage in a deadly duel.
