This evocative photograph captures the spirit of determination and resilience during the historic Water Strike in Germany, which took place in the turbulent year of 1922. The image shows a wave of striking workers, each carrying buckets, assembled at the edge of a body of water. The men, dressed in heavy coats and hats, are focused on their task, their faces set with a mixture of determination and fatigue. The Water Strike, also known as the "Od-Firmengruppe" or "Association of Od Firms" strike, was a significant event in German labor history. It began in the Ruhr region, where coal and steel industries were located, and was led by the Metalworkers' Union in response to the employers' demand for wage reductions and longer working hours. The strike lasted for several weeks and involved over 300,000 workers, making it one of the largest labor actions in German history. The workers' strategy of using water as a weapon was innovative and effective.
