This evocative painting captures the intensity and danger of the Burma Campaign during World War II, as depicted in the image of Chindit Brown of the Kings Own Regiment in action. Nicknamed 'Digger,' Brown is shown here in the thick of the jungle battlefield, his rifle raised and focused on a distant enemy target. The lush, verdant foliage of the Burmese jungle surrounds him, providing both cover and challenge to the British and Indian soldiers who fought there. The year was 1944, and the Allied forces, including the Chindits, were engaged in a brutal and protracted struggle against the Japanese army.
