On the right, a knight from the late 12th century dons a chain hauberk, hose, a steel helmet, and wields a battle-axe. The hauberk, a type of mail shirt, is made up of interlinked metal rings that provide protection against sharp weapons. The hose, or chausses, are armored leggings that cover the legs from the waist down. The helmet, with its distinctive nasal guard, offers protection for the head and face.
