The scene is set in the opulent surroundings of a grand royal residence, with the three women dressed in elegant hats and formal attire, reflecting the refined etiquette of the British monarchy. Queen Alexandra, a Danish princess, was a beloved and respected figure in British society, known for her charitable works and dedication to her family. Here, she is seen doting on her two eldest granddaughters, Alexandra Duff and Princess Maud, who were the daughters of her eldest daughter, Princess Louise, Duchess of Fife. The eldest granddaughter, Alexandra Duff, was born in 1879 and would later marry the Duke of Connaught in 1896.
