Macrotis Collection

Macrotis, also known as the bilby, is a genus of cricetidae mammals native to Australia, and are small marsupials with long ears and a pointed snout. They have soft fur that is usually gray or brown in color and they can grow up to 12 inches in length, and are nocturnal animals that feed on insects, fruits, and seeds. Macrotis live in burrows that they dig themselves and use their long tails for balance when running or climbing, and are solitary animals but will sometimes form small groups during mating season. Unfortunately, due to habitat destruction and predation by feral cats, foxes, and dingoes their populations have drastically declined over the years making them an endangered species. Conservation efforts are underway to protect these unique creatures from further decline so future generations can enjoy them for years to come.
