This print from Historic England showcases the iconic Brands Hatch racing circuit in Swanley, Kent. Taken in November 1955, five years after the introduction of the first tarmac surface, it provides a glimpse into the early days of this renowned motorsport venue. In the foreground of the image, we see Druids corner with Paddock Hill to its right. These corners have witnessed countless thrilling moments and heart-stopping maneuvers throughout their history. To add to the excitement, we can also spot the newly installed Grandstand on the pit straight. This addition brought an enhanced viewing experience for spectators as they cheered on their favorite drivers. It is worth noting that this original circuit still exists today as part of what is known as the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch. However, in 1960, a significant expansion took place with the construction of the Grand Prix extension – a testament to its growing popularity and status within motor racing. The aerial perspective captured by Aerofilms allows us to appreciate not only the layout and design of this legendary track but also its integration into its surrounding landscape.
