Front cover of the Furness Railway timetable, 1915

Illustrated front cover of a timetable produced for the Furness Railway Company in October 1915, showing a young woman sitting at an easel, painting a view of Lake Windermere in the Lake District. The Furness Railway Company was an independent railway in operation between 1846 and 1923. Originally conceived as a mineral railway, it later played a major role in the development of the town of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and in the growth of the Lake District tourist industry. Printed by Barrow Printing Co Ltd, Lawson Street

National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Our historic prints reflect the age and quality of the original artwork we hold to preserve their artistic character, including authentic colour reproduction, marks and creases.
