In this historic photograph, taken on 27th October 1928, at Government House in Seychelles, 23 young Seychellois Scouts proudly gather before His Excellency de Symons Montagu George Honey, C.M.G., the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Seychelles, for their swearing-in ceremony. The Scout Association, a global youth organization founded in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell, had recently arrived in Seychelles, bringing with it the values of character development, citizenship, and personal growth. The ceremony, presided over by Governor Honey, marked the formal establishment of Scouting in the Seychelles islands. The Scouts, dressed in their uniforms, stand at attention, their eyes fixed on the Governor as he administers the Scout Oath. The Scout Law, which includes principles such as trustworthiness, loyalty, and helpfulness, is also recited. The Seychelles Scouts were part of the World Scout Movement, which had already spread to over 40 countries by 1928. The Scout Association, with its emphasis on outdoor activities, teamwork, and leadership skills, would prove to be an invaluable resource for the young people of Seychelles, instilling in them a sense of pride, discipline, and community spirit.
