This historic photograph captures the massive barricade that once stood at the junction of the rue de Rivoli and the place de la Concorde in Paris during the events of the Paris Commune in 1871. The Paris Commune was a revolutionary government that ruled Paris from March 18 to May 28, 1871, following the Franco-Prussian War and the abdication of Napoleon III. The barricade, constructed of cobblestones, timber, and other materials, was a symbol of the resistance and defiance of the Parisian people against the French Army during the bloody suppression of the Commune.
