In this beautiful photograph, Princess Mary, Viscountess Lascelles (1867-1953) is seen tenderly cradling her youngest son, Gerald David (1897-1974), while her eldest son, George Hubert (1895-1936), looks on with curiosity and affection. Princess Mary, the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, was the first child to be born to the monarch in the reign of her grandfather, King Edward VII. She married the 6th Earl of Lascelles in 1896, and the couple went on to have five children together.
