This image depicts a pivotal moment in one of the most renowned stories from the Old Testament of the Bible: the discovery of Infant Moses on the Nile. The photograph, taken from an ancient Egyptian fresco, shows Pharaoh's daughter reaching out to gently touch the basket in which the infant is floating. The Nile River, the life-giving source of Egypt, flows serenely behind them, adding to the tranquil atmosphere of the scene. Born during a time when Pharaoh had issued a decree to kill all Hebrew male infants, Moses' mother, Jochebed, was forced to make an agonizing decision. Pharaoh's daughter, moved by compassion, discovered the basket and, upon finding the infant in good health, decided to adopt him as her own. She named him Moses, meaning "saved," and raised him as an Egyptian prince, unaware of his true Hebrew heritage. This momentous event set the stage for Moses to later lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, as recounted in the Exodus story.
